Houston Rockets basketball player Kevin Porter Jr. was arrested Monday morning after an alleged assault involving his girlfriend at a Manhattan hotel overnight, PEOPLE confirms.Porter Jr., 23, is facing two felony charges for assault and strangulation, a New York City police spokesperson says.
Porter Jr. is still in custody and has been transferred for booking while awaiting an arraignment.
ABC Newsreportsthe victim to be Porter Jr.’s girlfriend and former WNBA star Kysre Gondrezick. LocalNBC 4reports Gondrezick, 26, was taken to a local hospital with a broken bone and bruising.
A NYPD spokesperson tells PEOPLE the victim had laceration on the right side of her face and was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Police allege Porter Jr. “struck her multiple times about the body and placed his hands around her neck.”NBC 4 reports that Porter Jr.’s alleged assault began after he got locked out of his hotel room and that hotel security was called. The hotel’s security allegedly called police soon after the incident ended.

A spokesperson for the Houston Rockets tells PEOPLE “we are in the process of gathering information surrounding the matter involving Kevin Porter Jr.”“We have no further comment at this time,” the Rockets spokesperson says. Porter Jr.’s agent did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment Monday.
Porter Jr. was in New York City for a workout with Chris Brickley’s “Black Ops” pickup game series, according to his Instagram. The pickup game at the Summit in Manhattan was based around New York Fashion Week and featured several other NBA stars on the court.
Porter Jr. attended several events in New York City this week for the start of New York Fashion Week.

The former first-round draft pick was previously arrested in 2020, according to ABC News. He faced gun and marijuana charges in Ohio after a single-car crash in November 2020, but later had the charges against him dropped, according to the outlet.
