Hilaria Baldwinknows that kids are unpredictable — so her secret to keeping her home clean and organized has everything to do with working around that fact.
“I am a big believer in not stressing the kids out,” the mother of four, 35,tellsArchitectural Digestof her children with husbandAlec Baldwin: their daughterCarmen Gabriela, 5½, plus sonsRomeo Alejandro David, 9 months,Leonardo Ángel Charles, 2, andRafael Thomas, 3½.
“So, all the furniture that we have is [covered with] very washable fabrics, which is just really relaxing because, you know what? Your kids are going to color on your couch and they are going to spill something and I don’t want it to be this bigstressful, end-of-the-world [situation],” she explains.
Baldwin also makes sure to avoid “sharp corners” and has “an ottoman that’s made out of fabric rather than a coffee table, because that’s the number one thing for kids to get cut up on.”

“My kids are upside downand climbing all over the furniture andstuff like that,” the fitness instructor shares. “And as long as they are aware of what they’re doing, I let them do it.”
As far as tidiness is concerned? Baldwin says she and her husband have “designated a playroom” that’s complete with a multitude of baskets and a shelving unit from Pottery Barn.
“Especially if I’m pregnant and go through my crazy nesting-organization thing, I’ll put all the phones in one and all the cars in another basket and then you realize that they’re just going to get messed up,” she says.
“In the Hamptons, we have a room that wenevergo into: our adult living room,” she tellsAD. “That obviously never gets usedbecause there are always children around.”
“But one day when our children are like 25 years old, Alec and I are gonna sit in there, we’re going to have a good time!” Baldwin enthuses. “We’re going to read a book, do all this stuff we don’t get to do.”
