The new Green Lantern show is a CGI infinite opera house team up Hal Jordan and Kilowog as intergalactic buddy cops , from the people behind Batman : The Animated Series and Avatar : The Last Airbender . There is nothing about this that ’s not awesome .
This show , a collaborationism between DC animated universe maestro Bruce Timm and Avatar : The Last Airbender theatre director Giancarlo Volpe is going to be perhaps the purest space opera house DC has ever put on idiot box or moving-picture show , as Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and Kilowog head into deep distance to patrol the roughest corners of the coltsfoot . Because the movie serial is focusing on Sinestro , he wo n’t appear in the series , although it ’s possible they will suggest at his universe . ( If I had to guess , I would bet he ’ll make his striking prisonbreak from prison house in the key battery a couple seasons down the route . )
So without SInestro around to play the boastful bad , who will tread up as the major baddie ? The serial publication is turn to some late additions to Green Lantern lore , as Atrocitus and his Red Lantern Corps will be the main adversaries for Hal and Kilowog . These cult - driven Lanterns will fight our heroes over restraint of various sectors , taking the serial to a variety of different major planet .

Just do n’t wait them to head to Earth anytime soon . This is very much a space - based series , which means the other major DC superheroes wo n’t be making any appearances anytime before long . ( Again , if I can think over , this show could be the best chance for other space heroes , like Adam Strange and Captain Comet , to finally get their moment in the animated spotlight . ) As for who else will seem , the producers would n’t confirm more colourful Lanterns like Ch’p or Mogo will be involved , but the significance seemed to be there .
The show is a difference from Timm and Volpe ’s usual 2D work , and instead will be made in 3D CGI . Photorealism is n’t the goal here , they say , and they conjure up the Incredibles as a good benchmark for what they ’re aiming for . Now , here ’s the bad newsworthiness – the series is still a ways off . A trailer will come out in late 2011 , but the series is n’t slated to premiere until the springtime of 2012 . That limit what Timm and Volpe could show to just a few graphic symbol design , as only the first three episodes have even been storyboarded , and half the first season has n’t even been adumbrate yet .
It also have in mind we do n’t know any of the voice cast yet , although Timm did say they will use some alum from the old DC animated universe . For what it ’s deserving , Hal Jordan ( in his one cameo appearance ) and Kilowog were voiced by Adam Baldwin and Dennis Haysbert respectively , although I ’m not sure we live in an awe-inspiring enough universe to expect those two to reprize their role .

At Friday night ’s instrument panel on the DC revivify videodisc movies , Timm showed off some footage from the hotly counter adaptation of Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely ’s All - Star Superman . They show the first five minutes , which were almost a unmediated translation from cartoon strip to screen of Superman ’s opening rescue of the solar investigation .
What we learn perfectly captured the look ( or , at least , as much of it as they could – Timm freely take reduplicate Quitely ’s style in animation was their great challenge yet ) , duologue , and , most importantly , the feel of the original work . If this is n’t the best DVD picture show yet – and Timm says that it ’s his pet – we ’d be shocked . Best of all , this film does n’t add up any gratuitous grittiness or adult cognitive content to get the film to the common PG-13 evaluation , as author Dwayne MacDuffie left the original story passably much as is , other than a few story cut to change by reversal it into a cohesive film .
As for the future of the DVD pic , Timm and company could n’t say much beyond the existence of the next couple of picture show after All - Star Superman , the Green Lantern anthology motion-picture show Emerald Knights and the adaptation of Frank Miller ’s Batman : Year One . Even those they could n’t say much about , but they did say the “ awing ” cast of Year One will be revealed before long . But they were willing to talk in oecumenical terms about other potential movies , so here ’s the rundown on some of the DCU ’s most famous narrative .

Both Batman : Hush and Neil Gaiman ’s Sandman have been talk about as possible stories , but that ’s about it . Timm want to return to the world of Batman Beyond finally , and he confirmed we ’ll be hearing more from the original DCAU voice cast in the future tense . When asked about whether they will do an R - rated DVD picture show , Timm said they actually had occur very nigh to making one and almost got the green light for it , but they got cold foot at the last sec . So if there ’s a bang-up universal gas constant - rated level wait to be told , he said they ’re willing to narrate it .
Two stories that almost sure enough wo n’t happen are Crisis on Infinite dry land , which Timm said credibly could n’t even be condense into a miniseries because it ’s just too gigantic , and Kingdom Come , which is so tied up with Alex Ross ’s nontextual matter style , which ca n’t be done in animation . He said that , if Kingdom Come ever go on , it would need to be done in CGI or live - action .
