Emma Stone’s wedding to husbandDave McCarydid not go off without a hitch.
The actress, 35, revealed on the latest episode of theSmartLesspodcast with hostsJason Bateman,Sean Hayes, andWill Arnettthat she suffered a unexpected injury in the days leading up to her nuptials.
“The week that I got married, I did open a refrigerator and the handle broke off and I got a black eye,” thePoor Thingsstar revealed.
“And that’s where it stops,” she said with a laugh, before agreeing with Hayes' comment that the injury-prone actress “needs a helmet.”
“I need a helmet and extensive therapy,” she joked.
Stone married McCary, comedian and writer, in 2020, a source confirmed to PEOPLE at the time.
Like her relationship with the formerSaturday Night Livestaffer, theLa La Landstar has not shared many details about the ceremony publicly, but McCary did announce their engagement in December 2019 with a photo of the couple and Stone’s ring — a pearl set in a diamond halo.
McCary popped the question just over two years after PEOPLE confirmed their relationship in late October 2017. At the time, a source told PEOPLE that the couple had been dating for three months.
The pair originally planned to wed in March 2020 but postponed their nuptials due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The comedy power couple met when she hostedSNLin late 2016 — her third of five stints as host.
“She is professional in every way, very talented and focused on her work, and Dave respects that,” an industry source told PEOPLE in December 2019.
The source also noted that both Stone and McCary let each other shine in their respective careers.
“Two highly successful people in the entertainment business don’t always give the other the space they need,” they told PEOPLE. “But he encourages her, and she loves that.”

The pairmade their award show debut in January 2019at the SAG Awards, and McCary has since supported Stone during many career milestones.
