The January , 1987 issue ofOMNIMagazine admit a cover account titled , “ 14 Great Minds Predict the Future . ” OMNI asked influential people from a variety of landing field what was in store for humankind in the class 2007 , twenty years into the future . There were predictions about everything from peace in the Middle East to 3D goggle box .
David Byrne , lead singer and songwriter of theTalking Heads , gazed into his crystal clump to write about dada artistry , the future of idiot box , and why computers will never aid the creative process . With the welfare of hindsight it ’s a little knockout to believe that Byrne was so pessimistic about the potential for computer as a creative tool , peculiarly whenfuturistic pattern for computerswere get so many others excited . I do n’t think computers will have any crucial effect on the arts in 2007 . When it total to the arts they ’re just swelled or minuscule append automobile . And if they ca n’t “ think , ” that ’s all they ’ll ever be . They may help oneself creative people with their bookkeeping , but they wo n’t facilitate in the creative process .
The video rotation , however , will have some real impact on the arts in the next 20 years . It already has . Because people ’s attending span are pay back short , more fable and drama will be done by television receiver , a perfect medium for them . But I do n’t think anything will be wiped out ; books will always be there ; everything will find its place .

Even the three expectant TV networks will feature free , more specialized programming to appeal to special - interest mathematical group . The networks will be give up from the demand to attempt to please everybody , which they do now and needs end up with a show so stupid nobody like it . patently this multiplication of electric receptacle will gain the fine art .
I do n’t recall we ’ll see the participatory art that so many citizenry predict . Some people will use new equipment to make art , but they will be the same the great unwashed who would have been making art anyway . Still , I definitely think that the general public will be concerned in artistic creation that was once considered avant - garde .
