Mondo has had a huge encroachment on my life . As far back as I can remember , I always lie with movie posters . Growing up , I ’d buy posters at Suncoast or take them from my video store , and tack them to my wall . If they ripped , I ’d just throw them out and get new ones . Years later , the card of Mondomade me realize the papers hang on my wall could be more than just ornament . They could be collectible art too , and that flip a electrical switch .
In 2008 , I bought my first Mondo card , The Lost Boys by Tyler Stout . I got it in person at a cover , which was how the brand get its start : making gig post-horse as one would do for concert , but for pic . The poster opened my eyesto a whole new man — and since then , I ’ve continued to buy posters . Becoming a collector enter me to position likeGallery 1988 , which releases similar cool art establish on pop culture , and when I examine people spending hundreds andeven thousands of dollarson the posters I bought for much less than that , it was a really good feeling .
I ’ve been call for and writing about Mondo and the papa culture art world for years , andI could go on forever about the impactit has had on me . Maybe one twenty-four hour period I will . Today though , I feel like viewing is better than evidence .
