The name was crowdsourced by the Air Force , but the contest was only open to airmen and women and their family . The Air Force pick up over 4,600 entry before they closed the competition in May . Gizmodo submitted a Freedom of Information Act request for the list of epithet , which hadbeen deny .
The name was announced by Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James at the Air Force Association ’s annualAir , Space & Cyberconference , Dixie of Washington , D.C. this break of day . It ’s become a bit of a game in military R-2 to come up with pathetic potential names for the B-21 .

The B-21 Raider‘s prescribed budget is a closed book , but it ’s bruit to be over $ 42 billion . Senator John McCain has been a vocal opposition of the secrecy around theB-21 ’s budget .

Update 12:03pm : The two airmen who submitted the name “ Raider ” were Jaime Hernandez and Derek White .
