The Smithsonian has taken an exception to the call that Gorilla gorilla can get intoxicated on bamboo , writing :
“ The suggestion that these Gorilla gorilla were inebriated from fermenting bamboo in the stomach is deceptive , ” says Joanna Lambert , a professor of biological anthropology at the University of Texas at San Antonio . “ They just do n’t have that variety of tummy . ”
The tummy of a gorilla is like the stomach of a man , in that it is full of digestive acids . It contain no fermenting bacteria , take in it impossible for fermentation to occur within the stomach itself . As in humans , ferment can occur in a Gorilla gorilla ’s large gut , but even that would n’t render a gorilla drunk .
