The first time of year of The Walking Dead is over , but we ca n’t help feel a flake … disappointed . While we loved the serial publication , it still felt like something was missing . Here are some scenes from the comedian we wanted to see .

rent me say this in a flash , I do not intend that Walking all in is a defective show . In fact , I stand by my past kudos for this series and continue to lob wish at showrunner Frank Darabont . But when all was articulate and done , we still end the first season feel like it needed something else . More Dale
A crowing character breaking point in the telecasting serial was when Dale finds Shane contemplating shoot Rick . The knowing look on actor Jeffrey DeMunn ’s face say it all . Dale is n’t just the “ one-time man ” of the group , he ’s a character dogshit bloodhound . His years has given him wisdom and the longanimity to observe rather than oppose . His character spends a great deal of fourth dimension in the comic sample to protect different characters from themselves . In fact he ’s the first survivor to discourage Rick about the Bermuda love triangle he ’s about to enter :
In fact , further on down the road , he straight up recite Lori ( write otherwise in the TV show than in the comedian ) that he eff everything and then begs Lori to keep her business concern private so she does n’t come apart up the mathematical group . Whether you agree with his actions , Dale is a catalyst for everybody else ’s personal introspection . Perhaps if we spend more time with this guy wire , we ’d interpret why he feel so close to Amy and Andrea . We never really get a feeling for why these three meant anything to each other . By the goal of the series , it seems like Dale is funnily track after Andrea like a Church Father figure . And let me just discourage you now , if that ’s the angle they ’re going to keep working on these two , shit ’s about to get real eldritch literal fast . I wish we could have spend more time with Dale , and less time with Merle .
rather of “ Wife Beater ” and “ Red Neck Racist , ” how about Donna , Alan and the Twins ?
talk of new characters , I ’m still trying to sympathise why four absolutely entertaining and interesting comic book characters were swapped out for collection of boring , “ we’ve - seen - this - before ” impersonation . Where were Donna , Alan and the twins ?
The new collection of survivors added a passel of significant serialized drama . We recognise it ’s important for a telly show to have mini - dramatic play in every episode to keep the audience engaged in the here and now . But why swop complex lineament like Donna and Alan for characters that we ’ve already seen 100 times elsewhere ? Ed , the married woman - vanquish jerking , was just that : a wife - beating jolt . T - Dog was merely a patch twist for Merle to go full - blown racialist , thus allowing Grimes to play the bad ass . And Jacqui was n’t even significant enough to guarantee a little speech from Dale when she decided to suicide herself at the CDC . These characters were nothing more than tiny bumps on the revelatory route , that fulfil time .
You screw what ’s more interesting than the most cliched wife - beater in the history of Lifetime moving picture and a cracker who just HATES follow the rules ? A father that quits on life after watch his wife get eaten by zombies – but still has to raise two fry . Or a somewhat annoying old dame , who judges everyone under her breathing place . Alan and Donna are realistically blemished characters that cause us all to chew over on just how far we could be pushed until we afford in to our own brokenheartedness . Plus , watching Donna get more humane towards Andrea and Dale provided a little bit of grapheme ontogenesis , even if it was n’t meant to last . Even Morales and his family were never full utilized .
And finally , from a story system of logic standpoint , if I ’m hitching my wagon onto a group of survivor after the end of the world , you’re able to be bloody trusted I ’m not hang around a clique with the wife - beater or the antiblack jerk who may or may not bump off someone . Screw the moral deduction , these people are dangerous idiots . Rule number one of the Book of Revelation is , always count out for number one . And if my options were stay at a camp with the these dicks or head out on my own , I ’ll take the latter . Every . Damn . Time .
More twenty-four hour period - To - Day Survival
One of the delight of getting absorbed in post - apocalyptic entertainment is protrude yourself inside the state of affairs . enquire how you would get fuel , clean urine , a rain shower and shelter is not only engrossing , it ’s fun . As boring as it may sound , watching people learn how to live again in a new humans is highly entertaining and makes for ok late - night discussion on how you too would do the same . Kirkman spends a lot of clip trying to set up a flyspeck beau monde for the survivors . Even though we sustain to see a mint of this in the third episode , there was plenty of room for more level - headed provision .
Another interesting and important element of the comic was the slow tan of preparation . pageboy and pages are dedicated to watching the survivor practice zombi offence and defense , or assay to progress a better zombie - obliterate arm . Often times this got a small tedious , but when the shit hit the sports fan and certain members of the group are able to shoot their target square , it all comes together – quite nicely in fact .

Case in point : in the comic , Lori is less than thrilled when Rick decide to instruct Carl how to use a gun . But she is n’t complaining when the camp gets attacked by walkers and it ’s Carl who save her hind end by shooting a Geek right between the undead eyes . In fact , Lori is pretty unspeakable with a gun in that precise consequence , and it ’s Carl ’s instant to shine . It ’s a small victory that provides a pot of dramatic event and a bit of logic . Plus there ’s the incentive of watching a lowly child pump bullets into a skull of something that used to be human .
The television survivors ask more time learning how to be survivors . They used to be teachers , mechanism and speech driver . They do n’t have the skills to last in this unexampled world . It ’s harbor to determine civilized masses tramp off the societal norm they once held dear , for come through .
Jim ’s Back Story
While we all really enjoyed watching the thespian , Andrew Rothenberg , have a utter meltdown while dig graves in 100 degree heating system , too much time was spent on him possibly being some sort of psychic and not on the quiet infernal region that Jim had been exist in . Jim , in the comic , is a quiet mystery . He does n’t say much , and he does n’t do much . Too many characters in the television serial publication lay it all out on the line of reasoning much too early . There was something hazardously deep when Glenn severalize Rick Jim ’s backstory .
I wish we could have expend more time building Jim up as the time bomb he was truly mean to be . Perhaps if he was a mo more remove , this amazing line that he deliver in the serial would have held more impact for me :
That ’s a lie . That ’s the grown lie there is . I differentiate that to my wife and my two son . I sound out it 100 times . It did n’t matter . They came out of nowhere . There were dozens of them . Just tear ’em out of my custody . You know , the only reason I got away was ’cause the dead were too busy eating my class .
Instead , the only real things I remember about Jim were the “ my body feel like glass ” cable and not his conclusion to turn zombie so he could be with his class again . In the show , it felt more like Jim was forced into accepting his fate ( because the fever was so awful ) , as oppose to making the alternative for himself .
Less Rapist Shane , More ridiculous Shane
Shane is n’t supposed to be a likable fictional character , but his descent into madness ca-ca a whole mint more sense when his anger gets put on the slow burner . When Rick rejoins his family ( both in the comic and on television set ) , the tension with Shane is palpable . But as the TV episodes get on , Shane went from being a conflicted friend and poor leader to a raper psychotic . We ’re not trusted what the abstract thought for this attack was — did they need the interview to finally get on team Lori , or just truly hate Shane through - and - through ? Either way , you could no longer feel sorry for Shane . In the book , Shane ’s fall is a bit slower . Shane casually attain on Lori with kindness , as opposed to the ultimatum he flump on her in the serial .
Naturally he ’s perpetually rebuffed in both , but you almost start to palpate sad for the poor guy … until the crazy starts to pop out .
In the comic , by the time Shane is ready and willing to shoot down Rick and reclaim his role of group leader , you ’ve spend days and nights watching him unravel . When thing do to a head word ( in the books ) and Shane punch Rick , causing Lori to scratch ( not to protect herself but rather her husband ) you feel his pity . Especially when the rest of the camp reacts . As oppose to be shocked and horrify by Shane ’s action mechanism in the CDC . It ’s the remainder between look off , and peeking through your fingerbreadth . The TV violation on Lori went too far , and did n’t even seem to break his psyche . Now I ’ve lost all sort of sympathy for this goon .

Instead Of The CDC , Why Not The Wiltshire Estates ?
While I do n’t blame The walk Dead for going to the CDC , it was a coherent action for a policeman to offer up up . I do wish well I could erase everything that happened in there . By transport the survivor into this lose - hatch - like haven , the show undid a mint of workplace the production crew did building this calamity world . Hours were spent watching sweaty and dirty actors look for some kind of outflow , so the CDC was just too light . I barely recall how terrible the international world is now . Why not utilize the Wiltshire estate plot from the book ?
It ’s a gate community that seems like an wanton answer to all of their problems — that cease up being a deathtrap , much like the CDC but without the ridiculous countdown clock , fogy fuel gag , and over - explanatory rhetoric from Dr. Jenner .

Sadly , my swelled problem with the stumble to the CDC was demystifying the zombie outbreak . Jenner basically spells it out that once the victim goes full living dead , they are no longer human . He even chart it out for those still scattered , thus changing all the gray morality of walk Dead to simple black and ashen . The geeks are no longer human , so we should n’t feel bad about killing them any more . This also completely put down Jim ’s interesting hypothesis about reconnecting with zombie spirit roll in the hay 1 in zombie end . This also winnow out future plot possibilities on the farm with Hershel Greene ( a part we have n’t been introduced to on the show yet ) . Hershel is morally against killing the undead and keeps them inside his barn , which is a great risk for his kinsperson and other survivors . This plot could still be executed , but now the “ what - if ” public debate is apparently idle .
The television receiver series is slowly chipping aside at the mystery behind the Geeks , something you ’re left in suspense about for month in the comic . And in good turn , the show ’s taking by a plenty of opportunities to take shape your own opinions about the final stage of the world . study about subject TS-19 was n’t important , it ’s not going to save any of the subsister ’ lives . It ’s just shoved in , so everyone would “ understand ” when Jenner decides to kill himself .
UPDATE : In closing , no one wants a shot - for - snapshot remake of the comic , that ’s softened . That all being said , there are 13 episodes in the second season , so hopefully there will be enough metre for more juicy character drama .
